Come to our preview
-2pm-4pm - on
Sunday March 25 2007.
Art Space celebrates its seventh year in St Ives with a fresh &
lively show entitled 'A
New Season'. The
exhibition embodies a range of landscape, abstract and
figurative pieces from the seven member artists of the the co-op.
Continues until April 15 2007.
Following
the success of her exhibition at the Royal West of England
Academy, Bristol, in October, 2006, Christine Allen's work has been chosen
to be the opening solo show in the new Rosalind Franklin Room, a
520 square metre Conference & Function Centre overlooking
Millennium Square and Bristol Cathedral.
Rosalind Franklin is remembered for her part in the discovery of
DNA - a subject touched upon in Christine's larger works.
Show continues until May 31, 2007.

Art Space Gallery
enters into its 7th year, not with seven female members but with six
women and a man!

Due to the departure
from the gallery of one of its founder members, Greta Brett, as
from Saturday 10th February, Art Space welcomes Penzance-based
artist Mike Hindle into the successful co-operative.
Mike says. "I am
looking forward to meeting new people, showing a new range of
work and getting involved in a project with new artists,
especially in St. Ives."
Mike has already established a strong following throughout
Cornwall and beyond and his new collection of work, especially
painted with this exciting venture in mind, can be viewed in Art
Space's refurbished gallery.
Customers old and new are invited
to visit our newly refurbished gallery (open 22 January 2007).
Besides being a member of Art
Space, Angela Diggle also teaches. 'Watercolours for the
Terrified' and more recently silk painting classes have proved very
popular. So much so, that a 'Silk Painters Club' is planned for
the New Year (end of January, 2007) that will be suitable for all
abilities. Contact Angela for more information:

7 wiNTERS

The theme for this year's
Xmas Show at Art Space Gallery, is '7 Winters'.
The exhibition marks the official welcome to Ges Wilson (more below).
Please come along and view her interpretation of the theme, along with
that of the six other member artists, from Monday, 11
December, 2006- 8 January, 2007.
Daily 11am-4.30pm.
Art Space welcomed its newest
member, Ges Wilson, in September, 2006.
She joins existing members; Christine Allen, Helen Atkins,
Greta Brett, Angela Diggle, Annie Metcalfe, and Lesley
Ninnes.
Her work
is a welcome addition to the
Gallery adding a new and interesting look within the
exhibition space for visitors to enjoy.
“I feel very proud at being selected to join Art Space” says
Ges, “and completely committed to the idea of the artists’
cooperative, with all taking equal professional
responsibilities. I am very happy to return to work in St
Ives and enjoy my one day a week fronting the Gallery. This
allows me time to paint and to continue gallery and
education work without being over burdened by gallery
management.
Past students and acquaintances
from St Ives School of Painting will recognize Ges Wilson’s
energetic nudes in charcoal, washed with earth colours. Also
included are new figurative works of lone, shadowy surfer
shapes drawn against marine hues and small drawings in
pigment and acrylic from her studio residency in Dinan,
Brittany – a reflective time that confirmed the importance
of drawing in her work.
Ges works with a mixed media, layered approach, sometimes
finishing with oil glazes, liquid and translucent as misty
reflections, other areas may be rough and dry as ochre
harbour walls. |
